Salinas, CA — The Unitronic JDC-Miller Motorsports team wrapped up a challenging weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca after a mid-race setback slowed the pace of the No. 17 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, ultimately finishing 14th in the highly competitive IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class.
The weekend got off to a quick start on Friday with two practice sessions and qualifying packed into a tight schedule. With limited time to fine-tune the setup, the Unitronic JDC-Miller Motorsports crew went to work making rapid adjustments based on driver feedback, evolving track conditions, and collected data. Chris Miller went on to qualify the No. 17 Porsche in P14 before sunset.
Despite the final result in Saturday’s WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120, the event provided valuable seat time and additional data under some hot and demanding conditions. As track temperatures climbed throughout the race, tire management, grip, and pit strategy became critical factors for every team. Although the drivers maintained consistent pace throughout the race, a difficult strategy call mid-way through, would make it hard to recover lost ground.
While the finishing position didn’t reflect the effort and progress made behind the scenes, the outing represented another important step forward in the team’s continued adaptation to GS-class competition.
Drivers Weigh In
“It was a disappointing weekend from a results standpoint but I still think there are a lot of positives we can draw from it as we enter the busy part of our season” said Chris Miller. “We continue to learn a lot about our new car every weekend and having someone with a lot of experience with this platform like Eric gave us a lot of data that will hopefully expedite our learning curve. He was great to work with all weekend and I really appreciated his effort and approach. I’m looking forward to going through all the information we gathered over the course of the weekend and seeing how we can improve for the next race. Congratulations to Mikey and Wimberly as well and we look forward to welcoming him back for the next round!”
“Coming into the weekend, I knew my role would be to get up to speed quickly—not only on track but also working with the crew, engineering staff, and my co-driver Chris” said Eric Filgueiras. “Based on how the first two races of the season went, I feel like we made huge strides in understanding what the car is capable of and how the team can extract more performance out of it. Unfortunately, we had some bad luck with pit stops and strategy, and the result didn’t reflect the true strength of where the team is right now.”
Round Four Just Weeks Away
Focus now shifts to the next round at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where the team will look to build on lessons learned and continue the program’s development. Round four of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge takes place June 6–8, 2025.
