As the busy summer schedule continues onward, the Unitronic JDC-Miller Motorsports team looks to carry the momentum its built into the second half of the season. After coming off its fourth win in just five races, last time out at Watkins Glen and with a commanding 220-point championship lead, the driver pairing of Chris Miller and Mikey Taylor are eager to defend their pole position and victory from last year at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, as they head into this weekend’s race.
After great stints from both Chris Miller and Mikey Taylor, some perfectly executed pit stops, and clever strategy calls, the No. 17 Unitronic JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi used what it had to prevail with top-step honors at The Esses 120 At The Glen a couple weeks ago.
CONSISTENT THROUGHOUT THE SEASON
“We used what we had,” said Taylor. “We didn’t have much front tires left and we didn’t have much fuel left, but Chris did a great job to bring it to me, and the guys on the box - I can’t say enough - they did a great job on the strategy. At the end it wasn’t about raw pace, it was about consistency and that’s what the Unitronic JDC-Miller Audi is: It’s consistent.”
Consistency is precisely what the team looks to extend headed into this weekend’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120, but with great success comes greater challenges, as the Gen2 Audi TCR machines were handed a +20kg increase to minimum weight as per IMSA’s Balance of Performance regulations. Now, not only do the Audi TCR’s carry the least amount of fuel on-board, but also have to battle the factory-backed competition from Hyundai and Honda with the least amount of engine power and now, +20kg of weight, making it amongst the heaviest in the field.
